Duke Street Childrens Centre

About Us

Our centre Duke Street Children’s Centre is not only a Long Day Care Centre in Maffra, but we also provide an integrated Kindergarten Program all under the one roof.

Duke Street Children’s Centre offers educational programs for children ages six weeks to six years taught by highly qualified educators ready to guide each child to reach their full potential.

Here at Duke Street Children’s Centre we have two spacious outdoor play scapes which allow the children to explore their natural surroundings, to embrace the natural elements and learn about sustainable practices.

All children are given the opportunity to help out in the childcare centre’s vegetable & herb garden, helping with planting, watering and harvesting the produce. The produce is then used in our daily meals. This is a fantastic sense of belonging and identity that gives the children a true sense of pride and achievement.

Nutritious homemade meals are prepared on the premises on a daily basis with specific food requirements catered for.

Indoors we have four spacious rooms that cater for all the needs of the children including a separate sleep room for the babies complete with twinkling fairy lights.

We welcome you to contact the centre or drop by at any time to meet the team and learn more.

Our centre proudly offers a kindergarten/preschool program to ensure your child is supported for their transition to school every step of the way. With a focus on language, literacy, numeracy, social skills and more your child will become school ready.

Racheal Burns

What is your name?

Racheal Burns

How long have you been working in childcare?

23 years

What is your favourite part of working at the centre?

I enjoy watching as children learn to develop new skills and discover the world around them. I recognise that all children have their own unique personality and are encouraged to express their imaginations. I believe their inquisitive nature to learn and grow should be nurtured to help each individual child flourish to their greatest potential.

What qualifications do you hold?

Diploma in Children’s Services

What are you most proud of at your centre?

I am very fortunate to have a team working with me who strive for excellence and are very passionate, dedicated and understand the importance of providing a safe, supportive, nurturing environment for children and families.

What inspired you to become an educator?

My mother, I would spend time with her in her work environment and see what a difference that she made to young children’s lives, she was like a magical lady who just wanted to make a difference, and she was fantastic at doing that and I just knew that I wanted to be just like her.

See what some of our parents say about our childcare centres:

“Just a short note of thanks to say we are so happy with how Atlas has settled into the centre this year. The care in the baby room is just top notch at the moment and it makes it much easier to go to work knowing that he’s in the care of such awesome people who love him as much as we do. Keep up the great work. I know as a teacher we don’t often get much positive feedback… so thought I’d send some your way.”

“Stella comes home and tells us the most amazing and interesting things she is participating in at Duke Street. I think that taking the children to the hospital at the moment is such a valuable experience for them. Also, the fact that you are exposing the children to phonics is fantastic. Stella has started to put words together as a result of her phonics knowledge that you have given her.

The relationships that you work hard to build with children really show. As a parent, it can be hard to leave your child each day to go to work, but because both of my children attend Duke Street, I always feel at ease leaving my children, knowing they will be in the right hands. Thank you again!”

– Kate

The staff are exceptional & very experienced when I drop my son off as he has separation issues. At the end of the day they inform us on his day and he is always happy and I can see that he has had a great day. Very friendly atmosphere with the bonus of meals and nappies provided. Highly recommended especially for working parents as the centre hours are 6am-6pm.”

My daughter had a lot of trouble separating from me before she started at Duke Street. The staff at this centre took a lot of time and care to help her settle in when I first enrolled her and now she looks forward to going every week and can’t wait to get in the door! Sometimes she even forgets to say goodbye to me, she is that excited to be there. I can’t thank the staff enough.”
